Faro Technologies is a US-based manufacturer of 3D measurement and imaging technology, including portable coordinate measuring arms, laser scanners, laser trackers, 3D imagers, and supporting software platforms such as CAM2 Measure and SmartInspect. Faro's products are used in manufacturing quality control, industrial inspection, construction, and forensic documentation across global markets.
 
▮The Brief
 
Our work with Faro spanned two streams, a direct client relationship covering Japanese operations, tender documentation, and technical manuals, and a software localization programme delivered through a major global LSP covering Faro's Turkish-language product line.

Together, the two streams covered software UI, training workbooks, hardware documentation, laser scanner manuals, compliance materials and operational correspondence across English, French, Turkish and Norwegian.

  • Faro's Japanese market operations required translation support covering tender documents and operational correspondence for their Kono and Mishima facilities. French to Turkish tender documents — 1,136 EUR — were delivered for procurement and operational purposes. Additional Japanese operations correspondence handled in multiple batches.

  • Formal letters, client complaints and operational correspondence related to the Honda account — TR>EN and EN>TR — delivered across multiple batches. Honda is a significant customer in Faro's automotive quality control segment.

▮What the Work Required
Metrology and precision measurement terminology. Faro's software vocabulary is highly specialised, covering coordinate measurement, GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing), point cloud processing, surface deviation analysis, and probing compensation. These are not general engineering terms. Turkish equivalents for metrology concepts require translators with industrial measurement or mechanical engineering backgrounds who understand what the software actually does.
Software localization conventions. CAM2 Measure and SmartInspect are professional metrology applications, not consumer software. UI strings operate under character constraints, context dependencies, and technical precision requirements that general translation cannot meet. A menu item that is linguistically correct but contextually wrong can confuse a metrologist working under production conditions.
Version continuity across release cycles. Software products update continuously. Each new version of CAM2 Measure or SmartInspect brought new strings alongside modified versions of existing strings. Consistency between releases required maintained translation memories, so a term approved in an earlier version would appear identically in subsequent releases unless deliberately changed. We maintained version-level TM continuity across the full programme.

Multi-directional language coverage. The Faro relationship required translation across five language directions, EN>TR, FR>TR, TR>EN, EN>FR, and NO>EN. Each direction required different specialist profiles. Norwegian to English technical documentation requires a translator with both Norwegian fluency and an industrial engineering background, not a general Norwegian speaker.

Corporate compliance translation. The Ethics Policy and Anti-Corruption Training materials required a different register from the technical content, with formal corporate language that was legally precise and culturally appropriate for Turkish corporate audiences. This was handled by a separate specialist from the metrology translators.
