Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica, founded in Spain, became one of the world's leading wind turbine manufacturers. Following its merger with Siemens Wind Power in 2017, the company operates as Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy — a global leader in offshore and onshore wind energy with installations across more than 90 countries.
Turkey represented a significant growth market for Gamesa, with major wind farm projects across the Aegean and Marmara regions including İsoke, Bafa, Havza, Madranbaba and Kıyıköy sites.


 

The Brief 
Gamesa's Turkish operations required translation support across two distinct but interconnected content streams — technical documentation for wind turbine installation and operation, and legal and regulatory documentation for grid connection, compliance and commercial agreements in Turkey.

What the Work Required
Wind energy terminology discipline. Gamesa's technical documentation used terminology specific to the wind turbine industry — tower erection sequences, foundation bolt torque specifications, nacelle assembly procedures, yaw and pitch control systems, grid connection parameters. These are not general engineering terms. A translator working from a general mechanical engineering background could produce plausible-sounding output that was technically wrong. We assigned translators with documented wind energy or heavy industrial background to all technical content.

Expert-to-expert register. Gamesa's manuals were written by engineers for engineers — not simplified for operators. The Turkish versions had to maintain the same technical register. A translation that reads like a simplified instruction sheet when the source is an engineering specification has failed the reader, regardless of linguistic accuracy.

Bidirectional Turkish-English legal translation. Regulatory filings, grid connection agreements and commercial contracts required a different specialist profile — translators with legal training and fluency in Turkish commercial and energy law terminology. EPDK (Energy Market Regulatory Authority of Turkey) terminology, official gazette regulatory language, and Turkish corporate document conventions all required specific expertise.

Volume management across a multi-year programme. The relationship with Gamesa and subsequently Siemens Gamesa spanned multiple years and covered dozens of projects. The largest single technical package — translation of technical documents in 2010 — was valued at 9,113 EUR. Consistency across this volume required maintained glossaries and translation memories from the earliest projects.
