Software localization into Turkish is not word replacement. Turkish is an agglutinative language — interface strings can be 40-50% longer than their English source, creating UI overflow and layout breaks. String concatenation works differently. Date, time, and number formatting follows Turkish conventions. Character encoding requires proper handling of dotted and dotless i variants (İ/i, I/ı).

Why Turkish Software Localization Has Specific Technical Requirements
Turkish presents unique challenges for software localization that don't exist in European languages:
  • String Length Expansion: Turkish interface strings are typically 40-50% longer than English due to the agglutinative nature of the language. A simple English button text like "Save Changes" becomes "Değişiklikleri Kaydet" — 25% longer. Complex UI labels can expand by 60% or more.
  • Character Set Handling: Turkish uses dotted and dotless i variants (İ, I, ı, i) that must be handled correctly in all file formats, URLs, and database entries. Incorrect character encoding creates data corruption and search failures.
  • Concatenation and Variable Placement: Turkish word order is different from English. String concatenation patterns that work in English often produce grammatically incorrect Turkish. Variables and placeholders require careful positioning to maintain natural Turkish flow.
  • Date and Number Formatting: Turkish uses different date formats (DD.MM.YYYY), decimal separators (comma instead of period), and currency formatting (₺ symbol positioning). These must be properly localized in application logic, not just interface text.
