AI-Assisted Translation. Engineered human control. Every AI translation tool promises speed and cost reduction. Few are honest about what happens when the AI gets it wrong — and fewer still have built the controls to prevent it. At Alafranga, AI is not a replacement for professional translation. It is a controlled production layer — with human expertise at every critical checkpoint. We call this SmartEdit. |
▮How SmartEdit Works
-
Briefing and asset preparation — glossaries, TM, and reference materials loaded before generation
-
AI draft — generated inside MemoQ or SDL Trados with your translation memory and glossary applied from segment one
-
Human specialist review — every segment reviewed and corrected by a domain expert
-
Automated QA — tags, placeholders, numbers, and formatting checked
-
Delivery — with updated TM and glossary for future projects
▮SmartEdit Pro — Dual Human Review For customer-facing, high-visibility, or complex technical content, SmartEdit Pro adds an independent second reviewer after the post-editing stage.
▮Common Questions
- What is SmartEdit and how does it work? SmartEdit is our AI-assisted translation workflow. An AI draft is generated inside MemoQ or SDL Trados — not as a standalone tool — with your translation memory and glossary applied before the first segment is generated. A human domain specialist then reviews and corrects every segment before delivery. The AI handles the initial draft; the specialist handles accuracy, terminology, and fluency. We do not send unreviewed AI output to clients.
- Is SmartEdit suitable for all content types? No — and we say so clearly. SmartEdit is suitable for content where the AI draft quality meets our technical accuracy standards and where a single human review is sufficient for the required quality level. Legal contracts, regulatory submissions, safety-critical documentation, and sworn translations are not SmartEdit content. Before applying SmartEdit to any project, we run a free feasibility assessment and tell you honestly if HumanExpert is more appropriate.
- How is SmartEdit different from generic machine translation? Generic machine translation sends your content through a public model with no terminology controls, no translation memory integration, and no human review. SmartEdit operates within a defined governance framework — your glossaries are enforced at the prompt level, your existing approved translations are integrated before generation, and every output is reviewed and signed off by a named linguist before delivery. We do not deploy unreviewed AI output to production.
- What is SmartEdit Pro? SmartEdit Pro adds an independent second reviewer after the post-editing stage. Where standard SmartEdit uses one human reviewer, SmartEdit Pro uses two — a primary expert editor and an independent second reviewer — plus structured QA validation and final harmonization. SmartEdit Pro is designed for customer-facing product documentation, high-visibility marketing materials, complex technical content, and multilingual releases where a second human review is required before publication.
