Technical and Linguistic Review of AI-Translated Content

The translation already exists. We check it against the source.

 

Alafranga has translated and reviewed specialist content since 2002. We review AI-generated, machine-translated and human translations in Turkish and more than 40 languages in total, from technical, legal and medical documents to software, websites and other localization projects. Each review returns a corrected file and a report of the changes made.

AI output reaches us in two ways, and they call for different work:

  • Independent Review
    You already have a translation, produced by an AI tool, a machine translation engine or another supplier. We check it against the source and return a corrected file with a report of changes. Transfer into memoQ or Trados is optional. This is the service described on this page.

  • AI-Assisted Translation
    You have not translated yet. We produce the AI draft ourselves in memoQ, Trados or an online translation platform, with the whole project or document in the AI's view and your translation memory and glossary applied from the first segment, and a specialist translator post-edits every segment.

Companies increasingly use AI to translate and then ask us to confirm the result before it is published, sent to a client or submitted to an authority.

That confirmation matters because AI errors rarely look like errors. A translation produced in a chat window has not passed through the terminology and quality checks of a professional translation environment, and it is seldom clear which model or instructions produced it. Well-formed sentences can conceal an omitted warning, an altered figure or a term translated three different ways in the same document.

▮How We Work

  1. Preparation. We ask which model produced the text, how it was instructed and whether a glossary was used. Where this is unknown, we begin with a sample.
  2. Transfer into memoQ or Trados, if you choose. Importing source and translation into our working environment gives the most thorough check and leaves you with a reusable translation memory. It adds some cost, so many clients start without it and have the text reviewed directly in the file.
  3. Review. Linguistic and technical review against the source; on request, a final reading by a subject expert.
  4. Quality checks. Figures, units, dates, formatting and terminology are verified across the entire file.
  5. Delivery. The corrected file in its original format and a report of changes by type of error; after transfer, also the translation memory and termbase for future work.

 

▮Review Levels

The right level depends on how the text will be used and what an error would cost.
  • Light post-editing. Errors of meaning and terminology are corrected; style is left as it is. Suitable for internal documents, knowledge bases and large volumes of routine content.
  • Full post-editing. Complete linguistic and technical review, including terminology alignment, stylistic revision and quality checks. Suitable for product documentation, legal and medical texts, websites, software and marketing material.
  • Full post-editing with expert sign-off. As above, with a final reading by a subject expert. Recommended for safety-critical and regulated content.

▮Linguistic and Technical Review

Every review addresses two questions: whether the translation conveys exactly what the source says, and whether it is correct in its field.

The first concerns meaning, completeness, terminology and register; this is where omissions and mistranslations come to light. The second concerns the subject itself: whether a procedure can be followed, whether a legal term has the intended effect, whether a dosage instruction admits only one reading.

Reviewers are assigned according to the subject of the text. Where a sign-off from the field is required, the review can conclude with a reading by a subject expert.

We review translated content of any kind, whether it arrives as documents or as localization files.
  • Technical documentation: manuals, safety instructions, data sheets, specifications and compliance documents.
  • Legal and medical texts: contracts, regulatory submissions, instructions for use, labelling and patient information.
  • Software: user interfaces, help content and release notes, with attention to variables, length limits and consistency between versions.
  • Websites and apps: pages, product content and store listings, reviewed in context where a test link or screenshots are available.
  • Games and audiovisual content: in-game text, subtitles and scripts, with attention to timing, character limits and tone.
  • Marketing and corporate communication: brochures, newsletters and reports, reviewed for register and cultural fit.

The translated file is returned in the original layout, with text expansion handled, fonts verified for target language character sets, and formatting consistent with the source.

▮Questions We Hear Before Every Project

Can you review a translation produced by another agency or by an AI tool?
Yes. We review translations from AI tools, machine translation engines, other agencies and freelance translators. In every case, the source text is the reference.

What do you need from us besides the source text and the translation?
If available, the name of the model or engine, the instructions it was given, and any glossary or style guide. None of this is required; without it, we begin with a sample review.

Does the review cover technical accuracy as well as language?
Yes. Every review examines both, and reviewers are assigned according to the subject of the text. Where a sign-off from the field is required, a subject expert can read the final version.

When is a new translation more economical than post-editing?
When correcting the text would mean rewriting most of it. We assess a sample before work begins and tell you which approach costs less.

What does the review report contain?
Every change, grouped by type of error, with source and translation shown side by side. It also shows where the problems were concentrated.

How do you handle confidential documents?
Project data is kept in our own ]Project Open[ installation, hosted in the EU since 2009. Non-disclosure agreements are signed at company level and by each specialist involved.
