About Volkan Güvenç
Volkan Güvenç founded Alafranga Language Solutions in Istanbul in September 2002. He continues to direct the agency from London, where it has been registered since 2025 as Alafranga Europe Ltd.

Before starting the agency, he spent nearly a decade working across three industries that shaped the kind of translation work Alafranga would go on to do. He worked as a military translator at the Turkish General Staff's Central Translation Office, where he handled classified documentation across Turkish and English. He then moved into banking at WestLB Westdeutsche Landesbank in Istanbul, followed by a role in technical reporting and editorial work at the Association of Insurance and Reinsurance — where he edited the sector's professional publication, Birlikten.

That background — military translation, finance, technical reporting — was not a detour. It became the operational foundation of the agency: a bias toward regulated, high-stakes content, and a preference for translators who understand the subject matter, not just the language.

What He Built
Between 2002 and today, Alafranga has delivered more than 6,000 projects for over 580 clients. Volkan led every significant operational decision in that period: the adoption of ]Project Open[ in 2007 — making Alafranga the first Turkish translation company to implement the platform — the ISO 17100:2015 certification process audited by Bureau Veritas, the development of the SmartEdit AI workflow, and the establishment of a dedicated subtitle localization team that went on to earn Disney+ and Fox TV credits.

He did not build those capabilities alone. Alafranga operates as a team — experienced project coordinators, DTP specialists, and subject-matter reviewers who have built their careers around complex translation work. Volkan sets the direction and maintains the standards. The team delivers the work.
