Turkish Legal Translation for Law Firms and LSPs

Turkish law operates within a distinct legal framework — civil law foundations inherited from the Swiss Code, a court system that functions entirely in Turkish, and regulatory bodies that accept documentation only in certified Turkish translations. Getting the language right is not enough. You need a translator who understands the system behind the words.

Alafranga Language Solutions has been handling Turkish legal translation since 2002 — for LSPs managing multilingual caseloads and for European law firms working on matters that touch Turkish jurisdiction, Turkish counterparties, or Turkish regulatory bodies.

Working with other translation agencies

More than half of our Turkish translation work comes from other agencies. If you need a reliable Turkish language partner — whether for a single project or ongoing capacity — we are set up for it. ISO 17100 compliant, CAT tool compatible, NDA as standard. Same quality standards, same workflows, your branding.

Why Turkish Legal Translation Requires Specialist Knowledge
Turkish is an agglutinative language — meaning legal concepts that require several words in English or German are often compressed into a single suffixed Turkish term. A mistranslation is not always a wrong word. It can be a missing suffix that changes the legal meaning entirely.

Beyond the language itself, Turkish contract law, commercial law, and procedural rules contain terminology with no direct equivalent in European legal systems. Turkey's legal framework draws on the Swiss Civil Code and the German Commercial Code — but decades of domestic legislation, Constitutional Court rulings, and regulatory practice have produced a body of law that requires contextual knowledge, not just linguistic competence.

For cross-border matters, this matters in both directions. European companies entering the Turkish market need contracts, compliance documents, and regulatory submissions that read correctly to Turkish legal readers — not translated documents that sound foreign. Turkish companies operating in Europe face the same challenge in reverse.

Documents We Translate
  • Contracts & Commercial Agreements — Purchase agreements, distribution contracts, joint venture agreements, licensing arrangements, and general terms and conditions — translated with consistent terminology and jurisdictional awareness. We maintain client-specific glossaries to ensure term consistency across related documents.
  • Court & Arbitration Documents — Statements of claim, court decisions, arbitral awards, witness statements, and procedural correspondence. Turkish court language follows strict formal register — our translators are familiar with both Turkish procedural terminology and the requirements of international arbitration bodies including ICC, LCIA, and ICSID.
  • Company Formation & Official Documents — Articles of association, board resolutions, trade registry extracts, notarised documents, and apostilled certificates. Many of these require sworn translator signature for official acceptance — available on request.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Documents — GDPR compliance documentation, regulatory filings, due diligence materials, and cross-border compliance frameworks involving Turkish regulatory bodies including BDDK, SPK, EPDK, and the Turkish Competition Authority.
