Alafranga's Global Vendor Network

What Makes Our Global Vendor Network Unique
In our early years, from 1999 to 2004—with our formal incorporation on September 9, 2002—we collaborated a small group of specialized technical and legal translators, with  keeping vendor details on excel-printed paper cards organized in a folder.

The history of Alafranga Translation Services (ALS) started with the foundation in 2002 near 3rd Notary Public in Istanbul, Turkey as a local language service provider. Originally, our main focus was offering Turkish language solutions to local customers.

By 2004, we transitioned to storing all vendor information in Excel files, structured for quick search.

ALS began signing annual contracts with local and global enterprises headquartered in Turkey, initiating a transformation to expand its global presence and gradually broadening its language offerings to include the languages of culturally and geographically neighboring countries.

In 2007, we commissioned a web developer, to create a standalone program to manage vendor data and enable multi-criteria searches, inspired by Proz.

ALS became an overseas member of Association of Translation Companies (ATC) based in the U.K. ALS adopted ]Project Open[ in order to automate and integrate all management operations and we are proud to be the first translation company in Turkey that started using ]Project Open[.

In 2009, we upgraded this program to a global online platform, by carrying out a significant transformation to support our expanding operations worldwide.

ALS service quality is first audited by Bureau Veritas for certification of European Quality Standard for translation services and officially entitled to have the certificate of EN 15038:2006.

With a blank database in 2009, we invited qualified vendors to complete our structured 6-step online application form, which marked the beginning of our evaluation process. The form’s detailed nature discouraged less committed vendors, leaving only those with a high level of professionalism to successfully apply. This process has resulted in approximately 340 applications per year, giving us a well-curated database of 5,100 vendors to date.

ALS formed a sister company, Alafranga Language Solutions FZ Enterprise (ALS FZE) registered in RAK near Dubai in U.A.E.

Our project managers now have powerful search capabilities, allowing them to refine vendor selections by language pairs, specialization, CAT tools, pricing, and to review work history and internal notes for efficient decision-making.

ALS FZE formed a game localization team that specializes in game localization projects.

In 2012, we added new modules such us Vendor Feeback, Customer Feeback, Translator Testing, Crowdsoursing.

ALS FZE has started MTPE projects and, also extended its capacity in subtitling and video translations. In April of 2018, our EN 15038:2006 is converted to ISO:17100.

By 2016, it became clear that our database was no longer dynamic and was slowly becoming obsolete, as vendors were unable to update their profiles, and we couldn’t keep up with manual updates. To solve this, we made adjustments so vendors could have login credentials and access to update their profiles directly. We now regularly communicate with our vendors, prompting updates on their rates, services, and CAT tool expertise; for instance, a recent addition includes an option for post-editing services.

ALS FZE is purchased by ALS FZE, becoming the main company. ALS FZE is working for 100% international customers.

In 2022, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was implemented across EU countries, leading us to encrypt all vendor details and email communications.

ALS FZE has started to work on large subtitle translation projects of Disney+ and Fox TV. read more..
