Content Scope
Product catalogs — Schell's full product catalog is a dense technical document. Tap systems, thermostatic fittings, electronic sensor taps, safety valves, building water management components — each product entry carries technical specifications, dimensions, material compositions, regulatory compliance references and product codes. The 2014 catalog alone represented 4,007 EUR of integrated translation and DTP work.
Product brochures — individual product line brochures for WC and urinal fittings, washbasin tap systems, and product range introductions. Each brochure required both accurate terminology and layout integrity — Schell's design standards are precise.
Catalog updates — recurring catalog update cycles as product lines evolved, requiring terminology consistency with previous catalog versions.
Legal — contract translation from English into Turkish for the Turkish market relationship.

What the Work Required
German-source sanitary engineering terminology. Schell documentation originates in German — not English. German technical vocabulary for sanitary fittings has specific conventions: Druckminderer, Sicherheitsventil, Durchflussmenge, Einhebelmischer — terms that require a translator with both German fluency and sanitary engineering background. We do not accept German technical content with a generalist who happens to speak German.

DTP as an integrated deliverable. Schell's catalogs are not text files. They are designed documents — structured layouts, product photography, specification tables, cross-reference indexes, dimension diagrams. The Turkish version must match the German source in every visual element. Text expansion — Turkish strings are typically 15-20% longer than German equivalents — must be absorbed without breaking the layout. We handled translation and DTP as a single integrated workflow, delivering press-ready files in the original format.

Catalog cycle continuity. A product catalog is not a one-off document. The 2016 catalog builds on the 2014 catalog — new products added, existing products updated, discontinued products removed. Terminology decisions made in 2013 must be consistent in 2016. We maintained a Schell-specific Turkish glossary and translation memory across the full relationship, ensuring that a product name or specification term used in the first brochure carried forward unchanged into the final catalog update.
